Let’s make Leiden even more lively together

“Volunteering at Museumnacht? It’s a win-win-win!”

For centuries, Leiden has been a city of knowledge and culture, and internationals have always been part of that story. During events like MuseumnachtLeiden (Museum Night Leiden), they continue to contribute, side by side with locals, to a city full of art, connection, and joy.

Once a year, Museumnachtfills the city with cultural energy. Almost every museum and cultural institution in the city centrekeeps its doors open late into the night. And this can only happen thanks to an incredible team of passionate volunteers.

Among them are Mariia (19) from Ukraine, Ottavia (22) from Italy, and Elya (24) from the Netherlands. They all agree:volunteering during Museum Night brings loads of fun and great new connections.

Elya, a fourth-year communications student and part of the 16-person organizing team this year, says: “If you love art and culture, you’ll love this. The best part? After your shift, you get free entry to all the venues, and the afterparty!”

Mariia, an artist herself who’s starting a degree in philosophy next year, adds: “Leiden is such a cute city.” She attended Museum Night last year as a visitor and is now volunteering. “It’s so much fun to do, and I love meeting new people!”

Ottavia, a Political Economy student, was already a museum fan back home in Italy. Last year, she was in charge ofmusic at the silent disco in the Wereldmuseum. “I enjoy trying new things and meeting people outside my student bubble.”

All three agree: volunteering at Museum Night is a triple win. “You get to know Leiden better, make new friends, and enjoy art and music along the way.”
